Partnership, not dependency

It's an easy thing to say. Here's what it actually looks like on the ground in Pursat.

Local leaders make the decisions

Light of Cambodia's day-to-day ministry is led by Seng Sophanna and the Cambodia team, not directed from the US. The board's role is governance, finances, and support; the people who know the community lead the work in it.

That's not a slogan. It's the actual reporting structure.

We support families, not replace them

When Light of Cambodia first considered a program for a group of vulnerable children in Pursat, the plan was a foster-style model. Before moving forward, the board sought out the local team's understanding of how family and community care already worked in Cambodia, and learned that most of these children already had extended family: aunts, grandparents, people already caring for them.

So the plan changed. Instead of removing children from their homes, the Community Child Care Program supports the caregivers already there: monthly food support, school uniforms and supplies, and local pastors who visit each family regularly.

The kids stay with the families who love them. Our role is to make that already-happening care more sustainable, not to take it over.

A new partnership, chosen well

In 2026, Chan Sreylin and Chan Savin's school in Battambang joined Light of Cambodia as a new branch, Sreylin as teacher and Savin as pastor. It came after real vetting: we look for partners who share the same call to relationship and long-term presence, not just an interest in growing.

That shared foundation is what makes this one exciting. A team already doing faithful work in Battambang, now walking alongside Light of Cambodia for the long haul.

Christ-centered, dignity-first, relationship over rescue

Faithful stewardship. Hope in action. The same five values shape every decision above, from who leads the work to which partnerships we take on.
